Bolivian President Morales creates 6th state-run company since he took office LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Bolivian President Evo Morales has created a government-run sugar company, the sixth new state-operated business since he took office three years ago. Azucar de Bolivia will be based in the southern city of Bermejo, on the border with Argentina. The government will provide $25 million to import needed machinery. Morales issued a decree creating the company on Wednesday. Other state-run businesses founded under Morales include an airline, a paper factory, a cement factory and dairies. Only one is operational: a company that helps market basic foodstuffs. |
